Masters Project
Masters Project - Level Design, Narrative Design, World and Character Design, Mechanics design, QA
A short play-through of my finished Masters Project. The project was created as part of a collaborative Masters Project. I used the Unity Engine for the development of the game level and mechanics. I made use of Paper Prototypes, Draftsight, Photoshop, and Unity itself in the creation of level design and flow game mechanics designs, and I made use of Google Docs, various flow diagrams, and Twine to create the initial narrative and script flow for the game.
The player character is Eiladh a local tagger who is tasked with finding her brother whilst exploring this dystopian vision of a future Dundee. The isometric view provided a unique challenge for us as a team in order to design the overall levels, animations, and assets to create a believable living world.
During my Fifth (5th) Year of University, I created the above vertical slice as a representation of a collaborative project between multiple disciplines within a simulated Game Studio. My part in the project was the following:
Level Design - creation and placement of objects, interactable elements and NPCs in the level, creating the level flow, map design, and lighting placement
Narrative Design - I wrote the script for the vertical slice, developed the overall story, and created the names and dialogue for the NPCs within the world.
Designing the Game Mechanics for the player character in order to interact with the world - this included the unique save mechanic of using the players tagging (spray painting) skills to save, and the ability to hide from enemies
Design of scripted events such as the initial scene where Eiladh must hide
Input on the design of Menu Assets
Testing of the game was also a key task I took on in order to create a stable and playable prototype
